I hope the last two posts in this series have helped to illustrate the importance a sales funnel has for your business. Having a solid backend funnel in place took me from sending proposals for $500 jobs to sending proposals for $5k jobs – all because I made sure I have my backend in order. Today I want to move on to the tools I use to actually build those funnels for myself AND for our clients.

This post is part of a series on sales funnels. You can read the previous posts here:

  1. WHY NOT HAVING A SALES FUNNEL IS KILLING YOUR BUSINESS – AND WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY TO FIX THIS
  2. WHY YOU SHOULD STOP POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA, SENDING EMAILS OR DOING ANY OTHER MARKETING – UNTIL YOU HAVE THIS IN PLACE

Step 1: Understanding the different types of sales funnel and when to use them

The first thing I want to say is that sales funnels can be really simple or really intricate, how far you take this is entirely up to you. If you want to immerse yourself in the world of funnels then I would like to recommend 2 different books, both by the same author.

DotCom Secrets

In DotCom Secrets Russel Brunson breaks down the concept of sales funnels into manageable chunks. He also teaches you how to write the Seinfeld Sequence for onboarding your new subscribers. This book permanently lives on my desk.

You can get the book for free here – you only need to cover shipping.

Expert Secrets

If you are looking to build an expert-based business then this is the book for you. Expert Secrets will take you through the process of creating your Attractive Character, attracting your audience and telling your story. You will also learn how to write the Perfect Webinar.

You can also get this one for free – you only need to cover shipping.

If you know about the different funnels already, but you need a handy guide to keep with you, then the FunnelHackers Cookbook may be just for you.

After you have immersed yourself in the world of sales funnels, it’s time to actually decide on the best funnel for your offer.

Step 2: Mapping the funnel

The next step for me is planning out the entire funnel. You’ll want to show where people enter the funnel, the steps they go through next up until the point of sign up. Then you want to be clear on the options they have for upgrading their purchase. I include everything. Read Magnets, Lead Magnets, Landing Pages, Thank You Pages, Tripwire Offers, Order Bumps, OTOs, Email Sequences – the whole lot.

My 2 favourite tools to do this are:

Funnelytics.io

Funnelytics allows you to map your funnels from start to finish using pre-created items (landing pages, sales pages and even traffic sources) they are also adding a function allowing you to analyse your funnels.

LucidChart

If you’re happy to work with a standard flow chart allowing you to simply draw different shapes to represent the pieces in your sales funnel then LucidChart is the tool for you.

Step 3: Building your funnel

Now it’s time to build your funnel. For me there is only one tool I would use right now to create sales funnels and that’s got to be ClickFunnels.

ClickFunnels is way superior to the other tools out there (think LeadPages) and is your all-in-one solution. No matter what you are trying to sell, ClickFunnels has a way of doing it. Free + Shipping Offers, Automated Webinars, Video training series, you name it – ClickFunnels can build it.

SPECIAL OFFER

If you use my affiliate link to join ClickFunnels, I will migrate you from your current landing page provider to ClickFunnels for FREE. (I am limiting this to 5 landing pages, which will cover most of you – and on any remaining pages I will cut you a deal).

Simply use my affiliate link to join and I will be in touch with you to arrange your migration as soon as your email address shows up in my affiliate account dashboard.

Step 4: Increasing Sales

Funnelscripts

If you struggle to write sales pages and you never get your work out there because you just can’t get that sales page written, then you’ve got to check out FunnelScripts. FunnelScripts is one of those tools that takes the work off your hands and it writes your entire sales page for ya! Almost like magic.

DeadlineFunnel

Deadline Funnel allows you to add urgency to your sales pages, by creating timed offers that are user-specific. Want to offer a discount for that user for 24 hours only? No problem with Deadline Funnel.

Morevago

We all know the importance of social proof. We love to buy what others love to buy. Morevago adds dynamic *and HONEST* reviews to your sales page. Let your potential customers know how popular your product or service really is.

ConvertKit

What would a funnel be without Email Marketing to close the sale? ConvertKit is still (2 years down the line) my email marketing tool of choice. As a ConvertKit Certified Expert I know it like the back of my hand and I know how simple yet powerful this email marketing tool is. Connect it to ClickFunnels and watch the sales roll in.

Step 5: Linking your funnel to your products

Now ClickFunnels is great and offers you the option to create your members area inside ClickFunnels, but if you are selling a large number of online courses, then you may be better off with a platform like Teachable. Now how on earth do you make the 2 talk to each other? Easy. Use Zapier.

Zapier allows you to zap the information of your purchasers directly into Teachable, creating an account for your new students automatically. You can also add zaps and zap the information into other places such as Asana to remind you to send a welcome card to your new student.

If you have any other tools that you LOVE for building and maintaining your funnels, then let me know!
